UN DELEGATION VISITS JUBA TO PRESS FOR REFERENDA ON TIME

A UN Security Council delegation arrived in Juba last evening to press for the referenda on self determination for South Sudan and Abyei to be held on time.The delegation is made up of envoys from Britain, China, France, Russia, the United States, and ten other nations on the Council.

The mission is led by the US and UK ambassadors to the UN, Susan Rice and Mark Lyall Grant, respectively.

The UN members were received by thousands of south Sudanese, including many students, who assembled at the Juba International Airport and along the road leading to the Ministries.

The delegation met with GoSS president Salva Kiir Mayardit and other senior officials in the government of Southern Sudan.

Today they will visit the Rajaf Police Training Center, meet GoSS Minister for Internal Affairs and leave for Wau where they will meet with the governor and visit the catholic mission.

The delegation is expected to proceed to Darfur this afternoon to press for improved security in the region.
