Juba Teaching Hospital Department of Mental Health expert has revealed that the number of South Sudanese diagnosed with mental illnesses is rising.

Psychologist Sheila Nhial Bol tells Radio Bakhita on Saturday marking Mental Health Day that 56 percent alone of South Sudanese patients diagnosed suffer from depression and more others suffer post-war traumatic stress disorders.

She urges citizens to stop stigmatizing against people with mental illnesses, calling on masses to bring those showing signs of mental diseases for medical attention.

The Mental Health Day is annually marked on October 10th to raise awareness on the prevalence of mental illness.

World Health Organization in 2005 published a survey indicating that one out of four people with severe mental illness had been a victim of crime.
