The President of the Republic says Intergovernmental Authorities on Development or IGAD Plus Agreement on the Resolution on the Conflict in South Sudan undermines the spirit and objectives of Arusha Reunification Agreement.
President Salva Kiir Mayardit while addressing the nation through media houses on Tuesday in Juba says the IGAD Plus Agreement ‘seriously attached the sovereignty’ of South Sudan.
The President says demilitarization of Juba and other capitals shows a ‘great testimony that there is no genuine agreement reached so far among the parties’ and that the Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission to be headed by a foreigner is another clear violation of South Sudan sovereignty.
President Kiir calls on all political leaders to open a new page, introduce a system to resolve differences and organize themselves to avoid future conflict.
The President says the press briefing was to share ideas with citizens and find best strategies to restore lasting peace in the young country.
