Refugees across South Sudan have expressed concern about upcoming World Food Programme or WFP food rations’ reduction in August this year.

UNHCR updates indicate many refugees fear such a measure would prevent them from purchasing other essential commodities.

In the months of June and July, UNHCR and WFP jointly reached out to communities to convey the message of food ratio reduction and are now in discussion to ensure that the food needs of the most vulnerable individuals in the most food-insecure areas are met regardless of the reduction implementation.

UNHCR says it carried out biometric registration of about 7,034 individuals on July 27 to verify and document refugees in Central Equatoria State’s Kaya camp and Upper Nile State.
