Western Bahr El Ghazal State government received the first consignment of sorghum from Renk on Sunday morning as an implementation of the national government initiative to rescue people from the looming hunger across the country.

National Gender and Humanitarian Affairs minister Awut Deng Acuil appeals to Bahr El Ghazal Governors to ensure that the 27 tons of sorghum reach the affected people in the four states, Radio Voice of Hope reported.

She earlier assured that the remaining 23 tons would reach the state within short time without mentioning fixed date.

State Governor Rizig Zachariah Hassan said the sorghum would resolve the hunger situation affecting citizens, adding that it would also help encourage farmers to boost agriculture and maintain food security in the state.

Western Bahr El Ghazal government formed a committee headed by Finance Minister Lillian Valentino Rizig to oversee the distribution process within the state.
