Hiking commodity prices hit poor citizens in Nuba Mountains

The continuous rising of prices of local and imported commodities in Kauda Town of Heiban County in the Nuba Mountains affected many local residents.
 
One package of durra or cereal that cost five Sudanese Pounds in the past rose to 15, while one scoop of beans has risen to 20 Pounds compared to ten Pounds last month, Radio Voice of Peace reported.
 
A kilo of sugar that was between seven and eight Sudanese Pounds has risen to 10 Pounds while a packet of coffee also reached 25 Pounds which was 18 and 20 Pounds in the past month.
 
A package of okra on Monday was sold at 50 Pounds compared to ten Pounds in January and the prices of salt, soap, simsim and other goods has also risen skyrocketed.
 
A citizen of Laru village Kaka Abdalla Albino at the market says increase of prices of consumer goods affected lives of many citizens in desperate need of food and basic services.
 
She appeals to the local authority to intervene to reduce high prices.
 
Nuba Mountains’ authorities have not taken any concrete step to control the skyrocketing prices.
