Minister tells journalists: ‘Free press comes with responsibilities’

As South Sudan on Monday and Tuesday marks World Press Freedom Day with a conference in Juba, Eastern Equatoria calls for responsible journalism.
 
State Information Minister Mark Akio calls on journalists to execute their duties of disseminating information in responsible manner, saying press freedom should not be used to cause insecurity, Radio Emmanuel reported.
 
He notes good conduct of journalists in the state, adding that the government was also tolerant on media to promote democracy.
 
Director of Eastern Equatoria government Radio Ohisa Paul acknowledges freedom of the press and that no journalist was ever harassed in the state, cautioning reporters to be conscious while searching for information.
 
The commemoration of World Press Freedom Day in South Sudan was pushed to May 4th and 5th because the actual day of the occasion, May 3rd fell on Sunday.
