World Health Organization or WHO is issuing the first findings from what is a broader ongoing analysis of the global burden of food borne diseases.

WHO Director-General Dr Margaret Chan in a statement says they are dedicating their annual World Health Day on April 7 to the issue of food safety.

The Organization is expected to highlight the challenges and opportunities associated with food safety.

WHO Food borne Disease Burden Epidemiology Reference Group or FERG full results of the research are expected to be released in October 2015.

The Director argues that a local food safety problem can rapidly become an international emergency and that investigation of an outbreak of food borne disease is vastly more complicated when a single package of food contains ingredients from multiple countries.
