The President of the Republic appeals to SPLM/A Opposition leader Dr Riek Machar to cooperate to usher peace, saying ‘power is actually meaningless’ if it kills fellow citizens.

Salva Kiir Mayardit told a public rally at Dr John Garang Mausoleum in Juba on Wednesday that peace in South Sudan lies in his and Dr Machar’s hands, pleading that they should stop fighting to harvest peace.

The President expresses readiness to negotiate with the Opposition leader ‘anywhere at anytime’, fearing that United Nations or UN sanctions would destroy the economy by adding more depression to already ailing nation.

UN Security Council early March adopted a resolution to sanction individual South Sudan leaders or entities blocking peace process by imposing travel bans and assets freeze.
