Agergum leads Lakes in Primary leaving exams

Agergum Primary School in Rumbek Central County led Lakes State in the Primary Leaving Certificate exams followed by Loreto Primary School.
 
Lakes Education Minister Dut Makoi Kuok while announcing the results on Monday declared Marial Benjamin Ariik of Agergum Primary School the first with 246 percent out of 270 followed by Magdalena Nyanawut Dhieu of Loreto who scored 237 percent as the only girl in the top ten positions of the State, Radio Good News reported.
 
He added that Agergum, Comboni, Loreto and Mathiangic are the only four Primary schools that occupied the top ten positions in Lakes State.
 
The minister said there was drop of 83.7 percent in 2014 exams results compared to 85 percent in 2013 and that boys performed better than girls with 86 percent pass compared to 74 percent for girls.
 
Mr Makoi lamented that pupils performed poorly in Mathematics due lack of qualified teachers, textbooks, unfinished syllabus and poor inspection.
 
3207 pupils sat for 2014 Primary Leaving Certificate exams, 2782 passed and 425 failed in Lakes State.
