European Union or EU High Representative and United Nations or UN Special Representative for Children and Armed Conflict on Thursday renewed their commitment to work together to end the recruitment and use of children in armed conflict.

Federica Mogherini and Leila Zerrougui in a joint statement wrote that they are determined to keep the commitment to prevent child recruitment, demobilize them and reintegrate former child soldiers.

Madam Zerrougui lamented that the proliferation of crises over the past 12 months have put their response mechanisms to the test.

The statement added that EU is financing reintegration programmes for former child soldiers and that over 108 thousand children have benefited from the EU Children of Peace initiative providing education in emergencies.

It unveiled that with EU support, UNICEF and partners are accompanying the release and reintegration of three thousand child soldiers from South Sudan Democratic Movement/Army Cobra Faction of David Yau Yau.
