Médecins Sans Frontières or MSF announced that it could no longer reach communities with the greatest need because Sudan authorities denied access to people trapped in conflict areas, forcing it to close activities in the country.
In a statement CRN obtained on Thursday the agency said its Brussels-based section was focusing on three conflict-affected parts of Sudan where hundreds of thousands of people were displaced and in need of aid.
MSF said that denial of access to Blue Nile State and administrative blockages in South Darfur State also forced the closure of activities in East Darfur; making it impossible to respond to medical emergencies.
Director of Operations in Brussels Dr Bart Janssens said the Sudanese government’s approach to international humanitarian presence in the conflict areas was starkly revealed last week when Sudanese Air Force fighter jet targeted and bombed their hospital in South Kordofan State.
He lamented that Sudan has many ways to shut off their access to the people who are in the greatest need.
