South Sudan Council of Churches chairman on Wednesday said churches across the country are expected on Saturday to conduct national prayers for peace.

Bishop Michael Taban told the press in Juba that the Church realized that Advent seasons in the last three years were marked with violence, requiring national prayers, Radio Bakhita  reported.

He said the national prayer is to seek God’s mercy to restore peace and reconciliation in the country, to encourage the church to be salt and light through prayers and fasting in the country and the world.

He added that another aim is to pray for peaceful celebration of Christmas and the New Year 2015.

The Bishop said the prayers started at all levels.
