National Legislative Assembly Speaker on Wednesday threatened to resign from his position following an alleged embezzlement of three million South Sudanese Pounds meant for foreign mission trips.
Manasseh Magok Rundial told journalists in Juba that he had nothing to do with the alleged money in the committee of foreign affairs, vowing that he would better resign than being called a public thief of the Augus House.
He fumed that he would never be a thief pocketing government funds as a serious watchdog on public finance accountability matters.
Lakes State legislator Zachariah Matur Makuei last Wednesday raised a motion for the removal of Speaker Magok; citing the disappearance of three million South Sudanese Pounds from right usage.
He also cited approved bills hanging in the Augus House without proceeding to the Office of the President for assent.
Government Chief Whip Tulio Odongi Ayahu told journalists that the SPLM in parliament would never promote impunity and that the alleged corruption investigations are ongoing by ten state legislative assemblies’ whips.
He disclosed that they summoned legislator Zachariah Matur over the alleged misappropriation and the results would be made public through the speaker soon.
Chief Odongi pointed out that it was not procedural to raise a public motion against Speaker Magok without channelling the matter through the Assembly Majority Whip.
