The army new recruits on Monday took to streets in Yambio, Western Equatoria State striking for not being paid for several months.
State Deputy Governor Sapana Abui confirmed to the media that the town return to calm, security forces controlled the situation and no damages, Anisa Radio reported.
He claimed that there was confusion from the new recruits who did not follow administrative procedures.
The Deputy Governor said those involved in the incident were detained, without revealing where they were jailed.
He urged all citizens to run their normal businesses as usual.
Anisa Radio could not reach the army high command for comment.
