Western Bahr El Ghazal officials reported that two young girls died concurrently in a rape scandal in Wau town over the week and that police arrested suspects.

State Governor Rizik Zachariah Hassan confirmed that the two girls died and that security organs devised immediate measures to crack down perpetrators, Voice of Hope reported.

Police Commissioner Major General Abraham Manyout said they arrested more than four suspects in relation to the rape scandal.

He said the police established that ‘Nigers’ were responsible for the raping and killing of the two young girls last Wednesday and Thursday.

Wau Mayor Arkangelo Anyar Anyar revealed that the Nigers operate in groups and spread across the town.

He spotted four active groups especially in Darja and Aweil Jedit, adding that his office would use its by-laws to implicate the suspects.

The rape victims over the week include 14-year-old girl and a 23-year-old lady; both were tea sellers at Hai Dinka.
