Juba marks first International Day to end impunity against journalists

Journalists and civil society organizations are on Monday morining gathering at Nyakuron Cultural Centre in Juba to mark the first International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists under the theme: ‘Together, for safety and protection of journalists’.
 
United Nations General Assembly Resolution on December 18, 2013, proclaimed that November 2 of every year is designated to International Day to end impunity for crimes against journalists.
 
Association for Media Development of South Sudan or AMDISS, Union of Journalists of South Sudan or UJOSS, End Impunity organization and United nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization or UNESCO extended the ceremony to Monday because the official date falls on Sunday.
 
Journalists, UN agencies, national and state government top officials, End Impunity organization, civil society organizations and the public would have panel discussions and other activities.
 
UN requested the UNESCO to facilitate the implementation of the International Day in consultation with relevant entities, governments and stakeholders.
