The family of St Daniel Comboni comprising of priests, brothers and sisters are celebrating on Friday in Juba the 150 years’ plan of their patron for the regeneration of Africa by Africans.

Comboni Missionaries Provincial Superior Fr Daniel Moschetti told CRN on Thursday that they invited Bishops, priests, sisters and lay people to join them in the ceremony.

He explained that Fr Pacifico Salvatore and Sister Elena Balatti are expected to deliver lectures on St Daniel Comboni’s plan for the regeneration of Africa and catechesis.

The Superior said the Archbishop of Juba Paolino Lukudu Loro is expected to preside over the Eucharistic celebration.

Fr Moschetti said St Comboni’s plan was to bring the Good News of Jesus to Africa and the human promotion centred on the integral formation.

He said the celebration of St Comboni Day is significant in South Sudan because the country needs renewal especially after the liberation war and the mid December crisis.

The Superior explained that the new nation calls on all South Sudanese to unite as one people for the betterment of future generations.

A Comboni Missionary Sister, Agatha Cantone, said to celebrate St Comboni Day is something touching the roots of Missionaries’ life and going deep to their foundation to emulate their patron’s footsteps.

She preached that celebrating St Comboni Day means celebrating the love of God for the people of South Sudan, life and hope that one day the young country would gain lasting peace.

Students of St Comboni Secondary School in Juba organized the celebration at Kator with the Auxiliary Bishop of Juba Santo Loku presiding over the mass.

Torit, Yambio, Rumbek and other parts of South Sudan and Sudan are also preparing to celebrate the great feast of the founding father of faith in Central Africa.
