Wau Municipality authorities ordered all screen clubs temporarily closed as owners acquire security credentials to abide with a new regulation.

Municipal Acting Executive Director Juma Abdalla Jur disclosed that with the new regulations, the authorities withdraw all contracts of businesses from operators who encourage gambling and Shisha smoking in clubs, Voice of Hope reported.

He said some clubs were granted licenses to operate football matches and movies, but decided to operate gambling and opium businesses.

The Director warned against operation of illegal activities.

Mr Abdalla added that any club operator resuming business before authorisation would be barred.

He disclosed that gambling in clubs claimed a civilian life last week at Hai Fahal in Wau, prompting the municipal action, advising military personnel not to use their powers in club business and gambling.

Club owner Lul Alhaj Dominic said the closure of clubs inflicted a great loss to their business.

She advised other operators not to engage in illegal businesses in clubs because their business is meant for entertainment and youth sports talent development.

Wau Municipal authorities in 2013 issued a local order banning shisha smoking, but dealers continued with the business.
