AU delegation arrives in Washington for US-Africa Summit

African Union or AU Commission delegation led by its Chairperson Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma is expected to arrive in Washington DC on Saturday for the first and historic US-Africa Leaders’ Summit.
 
In a statement issued on Friday, the Commission said the Summit under theme: ‘Investing in the next generation’, runs from Monday to Wednesday.
 
It said the delegation would join about 50 African heads of state and governments for a dialogue with a cross section of top officials of US Administration.
 
The statement said discussions and other sideline engagements would strengthen cooperation between Africa and the US, building upon the existing strong bilateral and regional cooperation.
 
The Summit would focus on investment in Africa’s future; peace and regional security and capacity development.
 
Africa is expected to speak from a common position on the areas of investment, peace, security and capacity development.
 
Current AU Chairperson Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz also President of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, AU Commission Chairperson Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma and US President Barrack Obama are expected to brief the press on the final day.
