United Kingdom or UK Minister for Africa called for an immediate ceasefire and lasting peace as South Sudan faces risk of famine.
Mark Simmonds in a statement welcomed the upcoming peace talks, calling on all parties to negotiate in good faith, recognising the terrible humanitarian consequences and find solution to benefit all South Sudanese.
He condemned the recent violence in Nasir violating the cessation of hostilities, warning that fighting must stop this time for good.
The Minister said the talks must go beyond ceasefires and set the framework for the lasting peace and good governance that South Sudanese need.
He warned that the humanitarian situation in the country would deteriorate without serious action.
The UN estimated that four million people are facing food insecurity and that famine is a very real possibility.
