The Sudan People Liberation Army on Thursday launched sport activities in Juba with a walking competition for elders, small and women officers starting from Rainbow Football Ground to the general headquarters.
George Otuong won elders’ marathon, Garang Deng won small officers walk, Dafaalah Deng won the one of youths and Esther Robert won women’s marathon and all were awarded 300 South Sudanese Pounds each, Bakhita Radio reported.
SPLA Sport Director Isaiah Paul said the event would be conducted in Juba twice a week to enable soldiers from different departments participate.
He said the same event would be extended to other divisions in the ten states in order to build relation among soldiers.
The Director said it was good to train soldiers in sport activities because they help to fill discipline and that the small award to winners would boost their morale.
SPLA Morale Orientation Director Ajak Deng Biar appreciated the effort, urging all soldiers in different departments to take sport as an important thing that builds their future.
