WBG commemorates 49 anniversary of Wau massacre

Western Bahr El Ghazal State on Wednesday commemorated the 49 anniversary of July 11 Wau Massacre in 1965 under the theme: ‘We will never forget those innocent souls who were brutally massacred by Sudanese Army’.
 
President Salva Kiir Mayardit while addressing the ceremony described the 75 intellectuals killed marriage at the house of the late chief Paulino Cheer Rehan as innocent and people of unity, Voice of Hope reported.
 
The President appreciated Governor Rizik Zachariah Hassan for the motivating the event which he termed a national concern.
 
Governor Zachariah revealed that national and state governments resolved to transform Paulino Cheer Rehan’s house into a national mausoleum, an asset for future generations.
 
He said the government would compensate the family of late chief Rehan, appreciating the family for having charitable heart.
 
Seventy five South Sudanese intellectuals were killed during two marriage ceremonies of two cousins in the house of late chief Paulino Cheer Rehan at Nemira Talata Residential area in Wau, Western Bahr El Ghazal.
