Western Bahr El Ghazal Governor applauded his citizens for maintaining peace and security during the mid December crisis, saying the state remains a symbol of peace in the whole country.
Rizik Zachariah Hassan during the Independence Day celebration hailed the people of state for working hard on peace and unity, Voice of Hope reported.
He also appreciated the army and their commanders for protecting civilians during Mapel incident when some soldiers defected to the opposition causing civilians to panic.
Governor Hassan assured that Wau County is under government’s full control, encouraging citizens to embark on farming.
UN Mission in South Sudan or UNMISS Western Bahr El Ghazal Coordinator Nwaane Obhor explained that their new mandate focuses on protection of civilians, supporting humanitarians activities, IGAD mediation and human rights monitoring and reporting.
She expressed the Mission’s commitment to stand firm with South Sudanese to achieve sustainable peace in the country.
The speakers made their remarks during the third Independence anniversary celebration in Wau.
