American Bishop urges South Sudanese to foster national identity

A visiting American Catholic Bishop urged South Sudanese to leave behind their tribal labelling and promote strong national identity that benefits all.
 
Bishop Richard Pates from the Diocese of Des Moines congratulated citizens on the third independence anniversary celebration despite conflict difficulties and pains, Bakhita Radio reported.
 
He advised South Sudanese communities to live as one family and uproot different tribal origins to foster strong nationality.
 
The Catholic prelate said his visit to South Sudan was to show solidarity to their sisters and brothers and encourage political leaders to cease hostilities.
 
Bishop Pates called on South Sudan authorities and negotiators to focus on the common good of citizens and deliver adequate services to them.
 
He said the country need to focus on common vision that makes citizens live in peace.
 
The Bishop on Friday met different denominations’ religious leaders in Juba and explored ways of installing peace in the country.
 
He is expected to meet President Kiir and other government officials on Monday before returning.
