The SPLM-N warned against humanitarian crisis in the Nuba Mountains region of South Kordofan if assistance was not extended to displaced population in areas under its control.

South Kordofan Governor Simon Kalo Kumi called on humanitarian aid agencies to lift unexploded ordnance Sudanese war planes dropped in their areas during the past months, Voice of Peace reported.

He noted some explosives were dropped into schools and health facilities, warning that lives of thousands of civilians were in danger if concerned authorities do not intervene.

The Governor said the intensive aerial bombardment against civilians since June 2011 led to displacement of 700 thousand people now living in terrible conditions.

Governor Kumi praised his forces’ stance against the Rapid Support Forces who terrorize residents and loot their money besides raping women and girls.

He urged the International Criminal Court Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda to investigate the crimes, calling on human rights bodies to continue monitoring violations and pressurise the government to stop abusing innocent civilians.

The Governor also called upon Nuba Mountain sons in the Sudanese army and Popular Defence Forces not to participate in crimes committed by the regime against their innocent people.

Governor Kumi accused Nuba Mountain sons in the government negotiation team of ‘being bribed’ by the regime to prevent comprehensive and just resolution of the problem in the area.

The two parties failed to reach a common ground during the recent negotiations because SPLM-N demanded a comprehensive resolution while the government wanted to resolution of the two areas.
