Oxfam is expected to host a panel discussion on South Sudan’s future on Independence Day in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to reflect whether there would be hope for peace and reconciliation in the country.

BBC former correspondent for the South Sudan and Sudan and author of ‘A Poisonous Thorn in our Heart’ James Copnall is expected to moderate the event.

Community Empowerment for Process Organisation Executive Director Edmond Yakani would be one of the panellists.

The panel aims to strengthen and promote the capacity of civil society members towards development through self-reliance and genuine intervention.

It would also examine whether the sense of unity that brought South Sudanese together in 2011 could be regained.

South Sudanese Women Cry for Peace Founder Nyanuer William Nyuon who condemned the conflict and how it would impact in the new nation is expected to join panelists.
