Finance Ministry allocates 39 percent of 2014/2015 to salaries

Finance Minister on Wednesday while presenting 2014/2015 budget to the National Legislative Assembly said four point three billion South Sudanese Pounds would be allocated to employees’ salaries including the army and organized forces.
 
Aggrey Tisa Sabuni said salaries budget is the largest portion, constituting 39 percent of the overall 11 billions budget, adding that 2.4 billion Pounds would be allocated to state transfers.
 
He said 2.6 billions Pounds would be for the use of goods and 1.4 billion Pounds for capital expenditures including arrears and support from development partners.
 
The Minister told the Assembly that 268 million Pounds would be paid to other expenditures mainly interest cost.
 
He explained that they have to focus their efforts on maintaining security and government to operate at all levels.
 
The Minister expressed confidence that if revenues increased and arrears reduced they would be able to devote most of the budget to development.
 
He hoped to increase the capital expenditures by reducing the payroll costs through a far-reaching demobilization program for the army and organized forces.
 
The Minister said the block grant amounting to 955 million Pounds would enable state governments to finance their running costs and support counties development.
