Teachers’ Professional Union warned that learning might come to stand still as many teachers got fired from public service payroll by ministerial order.

Western Bahr El Ghazal State Teachers’ Union chairperson James Akile Youra said the dismissal was not procedural and arguing that getting qualified personnel to meet the vacuum might threaten schools, Voice of Hope reported.

He argued that the education ministry should have scrutinized applications before processing appointments and establishing the system.

Mr. Akile says the union wants to ensure that dismissed teachers get their salaries.

Pupils in Jur River County protested the dismissal of their teachers.

More than 700 teachers from three counties in Western Bahr El-Ghazal were fired lack of qualifications.
