UNMISS Chief visits Bentiu

The Head of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan or UNMISS on Tuesday travelled to Bentiu to discuss the ongoing crisis, and the deteriorating humanitarian situation.
 
Hilde Johnson together with the UN Special Representative for Children and Armed Conflict Leila Zerrougui met the displaced persons at UNMISS’ protection sites.
 
The Special Representative said IDPs situation reflect a terrible consequence of the fighting, people are hungry, severe malnutrition and civilians are also coming to the UNMISS base for food and dire living conditions.
 
Ms Johnson also met Unity state Deputy Governor to discuss the ongoing crisis, and the deteriorating humanitarian situation and UN staff to thank them for their dedication and service.
 
UNMISS opened its gates to all unarmed civilians facing threats of physical violence when the crisis erupted mid December 2013.
