National Education Ministry Undersecretary on Tuesday said there was high school drop out among girls and young women in the country.

Michael Lopuke Lotyam said 37.1 eligible girls complete primary eight with reduction of 1.3 and continues to drop in secondary school, Easter Radio reported.

He attributed high school drop out to traditional, cultural practices and economic constraints including forced marriage and domestic work.

The undersecretary revealed that 28 percent of children aged between six and thirteen years were in school in 2012 but great number of them is out of school because of the current political situation.

Mr Lopuke was talking during the graduation of 218 teachers on Tuesday under the theme: ‘Empower women through functional literacy’ in Yei.
