Congolese Refugees at Makpandu in Yambio County on Friday joined the world to celebrate the World Refugee Day.
Refugees Chief Kpati Munzalla thanked the national government and UN refugee agency or UNHCR for accommodating them in Yambio County, Western Equatoria and opening both primary and secondary schools for their children, Anisa Radio reported.
He requested UNHCR to provide more medicines to camps’ health facilities.
State Commissioner for Refugee Affairs Paulino Zizi expressed government’s commitment to provide more support to refugees including security and land for cultivation.
He disclosed that soon they would start issuing identity cards for free and legal movement of refugees across the country, urging them to cooperate with nationals.
UNHCR State Head Officer Francis Finzani said currently there are nine thousand refugees from DR Congo, CAR and Sudan in Western Equatoria.
He called on all Congolese hiding in Nabanga and other places along the border to report to camps in order to be considered refugees.
