Health Link South Sudan Coordinator on Wednesday urged communities to donate blood at critical times of need to save lives.
Moses Akera Poloya said blood transfusion saved a young mother’s life who was lacking iron minerals in blood, a condition known as anaemia at Mingkaman area of Lakes State.
He explained that the delivering mother was bleeding severely and running short of blood until a quick mobilization for blood donation was successfully done in Juba.
Mr Akera revealed a plan to establish blood banks in all towns of the country and sensitize communities on the essence of blood donation to save lives.
The Coordinator urged pregnant women to attend maternal and antenatal care services regularly to check on possible condition of anaemia.
He revealed that prenatal and antenatal statistics show poor attendance by expectant mothers instead of four times as required.
Mr Akera urged pregnant women to improve nutritional system to avoid anaemia.
The Coordinator told expectant mothers to acquire iron tablets and deliver in health facilities for life safety and convenience.
