Oxfam’s South Sudan Country Director said with rains now in full swing, the situation only stands to deteriorate to multiple crisis including conflict, hunger and disease.

In a statement, Emma Jane Drew said it is now six months since the crisis onset stopped the country’s projected exponential economic development in track.

It lamented just in a short time the conflict took thousands of lives and destroyed the livelihoods of millions.

Ms Jane said if the country is to avoid famine, the time to act is now.

She added that humanitarian actors managed to reach over one million people with food, water, shelter and other essential support since December, but millions more remain in need.

The Director warns that if there is no significant scale up response, four million people will go hungry in coming months.

The statement urges both conflicting parties to genuinely commit to building a path to peace that is robust and enduring.
