The Sudan People Liberation Movement or SPLM is opposing the idea of federal system of governance saying the idea was opposed before the signing of Comprehensive Peace Agreement or CPA.
SPLM Syndicated Organization Secretary Acuil Malith said federalism was intentionally avoided during the CPA negotiations to shun mess up, Bakhita Radio reported.
He said federalism mean defining the cultural norms of certain community saying it was already included in the Local Government Act.
Mr Malith stressed on the need for more dialogue saying SPLM is very pragmatic about federal system of governance.
The Secretary disclosed party’s plan to enlighten citizens on reconciliation, federalism, constitutional review process and transitional government of national unity.
He said SPLM identified four groups to lead the campaign next week, calling on the citizens to give their views to enable the party resolve the problem in the country.
The Central and Western Equatoria states supported the idea of federalism saying it is the best governance system.
SPLM/A in opposition leader Riek Machar said the nation needs to be restructured by instituting a federal system of governance.
President Salva Kiir earlier said federalism demand was a pretext used by Dr Machar to divide internal front in South Sudan.
