Central Equatoria Teachers’ Professional Union on Thursday met Yei educational officials including primary and secondary teachers to enlighten them on the importance of having branches in the counties.
The Union Chairperson Fr Peter Ladu Tombe told the officials that the meeting aimed at acquainting themselves with the role of the Union in the county, Easter Radio reported.
He said the Union’s role is to fight for teachers’ services, struggles for education improvement and protecting them from harassment and victimization.
Yei River County Education Director Philip Taban appreciated the Union members for meeting the sector through tackling challenges to beef up delivery of services.
He said Yei has 120 primary and 19 secondary schools with a number of unmentioned nursery schools, citing few teachers in government schools as a major difficulty.
Yei River County Teachers’ Professional Union Deputy Chairperson Rene Alanzi Talaguma expressed happiness, saying State Union would help address the many challenges facing them.
He stressed on the need for teachers to be satisfied in their profession because education is a first priority.
The Deputy Chairperson cited low and delayed salaries, empty promises on topping and lack of implementation of housing, dressing and chalk allowances.
