Intergovernmental Authority on Development or IGAD in its 26th extraordinary session on South Sudan crisis on Tuesday resolved to impose punitive measures to the government and SPLM/A in opposition leaders who fail to honour commitments.
It called on the conflicting parties to refrain from behaviour that hinder inclusive process, calling on them to immediately endorse modalities for inclusive participation.
The IGAD told the parties to ensure unhampered humanitarian access and support for affected populations, warning that the two sides shall assume full responsibility of any failure.
It regretted continued and flagrant violations of the Cessation of Hostilities Agreements, demanding the parties to respect the Agreements and immediately implement necessary modalities according to the May 9 and other Agreements.
The IGAD expressed its deep disappointment in failures of the government and the opposition to honour their commitments to engage in meaningful peace process to resolve the political crisis and bring an end to senseless killings.
