The national Agriculture minister on Wednesday urged citizens to engage in farming activities to fight the looming hunger.
Beda Machar Deng told Bakhita Radio Wake up Juba show that all citizens in rural areas and town should clear their farms, plough them and plant their seeds during this rainy season.
He said it was important to farm and fight hunger despite insecurity and inadequate budget.
The minister said President Salva Kiir during the opening of the parliament, pledged 1,000 tractors and seven million South Sudanese Pounds for buying seeds to boost agriculture.
Mr Machar clarified that the issue of seeds was already approved, but that of tractors was under discussion at the National Assembly.
President Kiir earlier told citizens to engage in agriculture for South Sudan to be food secure by 2015, but the political crisis stopped agricultural activities in some states.
