United Methodist Committee on Relief or UMCOR in Yei River County on Monday started two-day evaluation on the implementation of the project entitled ‘introduction and dissemination of improved food security practices in Central Equatoria’.

Project Manager Dara Elisha said the project started in February 2011 and ended in March 2014, supporting farmers in cassava production, fish farming, bee-keeping and capacity building, Easter Radio reported.

He said some difficulties facing farmers included the use of elementary tools for fish ponds construction which was tedious.

Mr Dara also cited limited market, inadequate tools and bad roads as other key challenges facing farmers to sell their produce in the county.

Yei River County Animal Resources and Fisheries Assistant Commissioner Milton Ismail Samuel said they evaluate how best UMCOR implemented the project in terms of inputs and outputs and what farmers gained from the organization.

He said another aim of evaluating the project was for farmers to use the errors committed for future benefits.

The evaluation workshop which started on Monday is expected to conclude on Tuesday.
