Female Genital Mutilation or FGM practitioners shall face law after passing Western Bahr El Ghazal Health Bill.
State Health Minister Isaac Cleto said FGM risk would be included in the state education curriculum and that parents who encourage this illegal practice would severely be punished, Voice of Hope reported.
He said Female Genital Mutilation is violence against women.
Dr Cleto said the practice of FGM poses a lot of health hazards among girls especially during delivery and menstruation period.
He explained that FGM was one of the causes of fistula among women, adding that victims were traumatized and face difficulties in their marriages.
He said the practice of FGM entered into the culture of people of Western Bahr El Ghazal especially in Raja and Wau Counties.
The Minister called on the community to report cases of FGM to authorities for investigation.
