Lack of funds hinders Councillors’ operations in Torit

Kapoeta South County Council Chairperson complained lack of finance hinder their operations.
 
Joseph Lokai told the Local Government two-day workshop on Thursday in Torit that County councillors operate without allowances and lack of means to do their jobs, Emmanuel Radio reported.
 
He said some councillors face lack of understanding and responsibilities of political heads including Commissioner, Mayor, directors and other officials.
 
United Nations Mission in South Sudan Civil Affairs officer in Torit Julius Fondong cited lack of clear roles and responsibilities among Local Governments units.
 
Mr Fondong said the two-day workshop was organized in collaboration with state Local Enforcement ministry at the request of Governor Louis Lobong Lojore to identify roles and responsibilities of Local Government units.
 
He added that the workshop also explored means of increasing tax collection.
 
The workshop attracted Local Government officials from different counties, town councils and Torit Municipality, civil society and the media.
