The United Nation Mission in South Sudan or UNMISS in Lakes State graduated 21 community police officers after two-week training in Rumbek.

The officers were drawn from the eight counties of the State to be empowered with community policing skills to help and transform the community, Good News Radio reported.

UN Police State Advisor Ranjana Chauchan said the purpose of the training aimed to bring the community and police together to address challenges without pointing fingers to one another.

Lakes Deputy Police Commissioner Brigadier Kuot Deng Yaak described the training as very crucial, adding that the community and the police work for a better society.

He said community policing was important because it allows the community police and chiefs discuss issues at local levels before they go to the court law.

The graduation ceremony drew together many government officials and local chiefs in Rumbek Central County.
