European Union or EU delegation to South Sudan Political Counsellor said the bishops heading Church Leaders Mediation Initiative between General David Yau Yau and the government did excellent work.
Christian R Manahl on Tuesday in Juba congratulated Bishops Paride Taban and Paul Yugusuk, South Sudan Democratic Movement/Army, Cobra Faction and the government for reaching a final peace deal, ending conflict in Greater Pibor of Jonglei State.
He added that the EU would continue to support the implementation of Greater Pibor Administrative Area Agreement, expressing happiness on the achievement.
Mr Manahl expressed EU’s concerned to the ongoing conflict between the government and SPLM/A in opposition, hoping that the recent truce signed by President Salva Kiir and Dr Riek Machar would stop it.
Church Leaders Mediation Initiative Spokesperson Bishop Paul Yugusuk believes the agreement between SSDM/A, Cobra Faction and the government would last, given their commitment.
He added that the church wants to see minority communities fairly treated to ensure reconciliation at grassroots’ levels.
The bishop said Murle, Jie, Anyuak and Kachipo deserved fair treatment as their quest for justice against social, economic and political marginalization was long overdue.
Bishop Yugusuk said the peace agreement would be subjected to approval by the Council of States.
The bishop added that the mandate of Greater Pibor Administrative Area would depend on outcomes of political resolution on governance system.
