Citizens, students and all organized forces of Tonj South County in Warrap State on Friday celebrated SPLA Day in peace and unity.
Commissioner William Wol Mayom said SPLA Day was to remember the day South Sudanese took their arms to fight for independence, an end to discrimination, injustice, sharia-law, marginalization and other ills in Khartoum Don Bosco Radio reported.
He said the celebration which was coloured with traditional dances, started with a procession from Sanaiya School to Tonj Freedom Square.
The County Commissioner Wol appealed to all South Sudanese within and abroad to unite and work for peace.
Tonj Sacred Heart Parish Priest John Peter prayed during to Jesus Christ for all leaders to bring peace and unity in the country.
He advised all Christians countrywide to pray for peace and unity among South Sudanese.
Women leader Mama Nyandeng Geng urged men to respect women because they are the most vulnerable people of the civil wars.
She added that during the liberation struggle, when SPLA soldier reached any home they only asked for a woman to give them food, alcohol and other things to make them strong to fight.
