National Labour Ministry’s Director General for Labour and Industrial Relations in Juba said labour contributes to economic development of a country, recognizing efforts made by workers in South Sudan.
In an interview with CRN Clement Philemon Baime urged employees of all sectors to uphold their freedom and rights to form or join workers’ union.
He told employees of all sorts to be free to raise complaints or disagreements pertaining labour to the ministry for redress.
The Director General told workers to be aware of their rights and obligations to avoid exploitation by employers in the country.
Mr Philemon advised employees to present concerns in a positive way, but not to despise government or any employer for shortcomings.
He explained that freedom and right begins from recruitment, urging employees to work for eight hours per day or claim overtime pay.
Mr Philemon added that employees have the right to go for annual leave, sick leave , compassionate leave and maternity leave in the right time and procedure.
The Director General recognized Labor Day as unifying labourers to understand and cooperate with government.
