Médecins Sans Frontières, MSF called on conflict actors including government and SPLM/A in opposition forces to stop targeted killing of innocent civilians, condemning the Bentiu massacre.
In a statement issued on Monday, MSF urged the war actors to ensure discipline and accountability of fighters under their command and assume responsibility over the civil population in areas of their control.
MSF international team headed by Head of Mission in South Sudan Raphael Gorgeu visited Bentiu a week ago to make an independent assessment, describing the situation as an affront to humanity.
He lamented, ‘The violence in South Sudan has taken a particularly ugly turn, stripping people of their most basic human dignity. It is a terrible thing to witness.’
The organization said 33 people were killed in Bentiu State Hospital including one Health Ministry employee.
MSF said it sent in an additional surgical team and medical supplies by air to reinforce humanitarian work in Bentiu of Unity State.
The statement added that more than 230 war-wounded are being treated for gunshot wounds up to date.
