Over 40 infants were baptized at Saints Peter and Paul Cathedral in the Catholic Diocese of Torit as Pope Francis declared two former Popes, saints.

Pope Francis declared Popes John Paul II and John XXIII saints in front of a crowd of thousands, Emmanuel Radio reported.

Saints Peter and Paul Parish priest Fr. Jackino Lomogo told Christians that the canonization in Rome and baptism in Torit coincided on Sunday.

He praised St. John Paul II for creating the Catholic Diocese of Torit and enthroning Bishop Paride Taban as the first prelate of the Diocese.

Bishop Emeritus Paride Taban was among the estimated 800 thousand pilgrims in Rome witnessing the two-hour ceremony.
