South Sudan joined the rest of the world in celebrating World Malaria Day on Friday, revealing alarming cases of death caused by malaria and rating it the major cause of death every year.
National Health Minister Dr Riak Gai Kok said in 2013 alone about 1400 people died of malaria and two million people suffered from the infection.
He added that a strategic plan against malaria was developed and that it would be launched on Wednesday in an effort to declare war against malaria in the country.
Dr Gai lamented that campaign would be carried out in schools, barracks and other places.
The minister said over 1,500 mainly recorded infections for children under the age of five, half of the cases were due to malaria, causing scores of deaths in South Sudan.
Juba City Council Mayor Sarafino Wani said all states are on board for the campaign against the disease since it is blackening the future of the nation by killing children.
