Yambio Central Prison in Western Equatoria State on Friday received Civic Education awareness conducted by United Nations Mission in South Sudan; UNMISS Rule of Law Section.
UNMISS State Advisor for Judiciary Affairs Edna Oyango urged the prison officers and others dealing with legal affairs to put much effort to assist those in need of legal aid, Anisa Radio reported.
State Head of Legal Affairs Deng Kuol said it was important to understand how to talk on behalf of those detained or convicted serving their sentences in different prisons or custodies.
He urged the traditional authorities to reconcile and mediate cases of citizens not to pass direct judgment, appealing to masses to visit relatives and friends in prison.
A participant Ustaza Hellen Andrea appreciated the government and UNMISS for inspiring them with basics knowledge on Justice and other legal affairs.
Yambio Central Prison Director Brigadier Zachariah Kual appreciated the community for good turn up to the civic awareness.
