United States Secretary of State urged South Sudan political leaders to prioritize the interests of citizens over their own personal or ethnic concerns.
John Kerry in statement on Thursday, raised the need for the nation to immediately stop fighting, provide full humanitarian access, cease harassment and threats against UNMISS.
The Secretary met Minister in Office of the President Awan Riak and expressed his serious concern and reaffirmed their support and readiness to stand with those who take bold steps to lead the country out of the crisis.
The Secretary emphasized the importance of full cooperation with the African Union Commission of Inquiry and the US government’s support for justice, reconciliation, and accountability for human rights violations and abuses.
Mr Kerry called for progress towards inclusive, broad based negotiations led by the Intergovernmental Authority on Development or IGAD.
He added that the US would continue to stand with South Sudanese to bring peace, stability and good governance for people to return to livelihoods for the economy to flourish.
